My Property

You and your bicycle, points to consider:

  • Keep your bike in good working order.
  • Obey the rules of the road and look competent.
  • Don’t try to be clever and take unnecessary risks.
  • Wear the right accessories, always dress to be seen and safe.
  • Use a helmet – It may save your life!
  • Do not take short cuts even if you are slightly late or in a hurry for any other reason.
  • Buy and use a padlock or chain to secure your bicycle if you intend to leave it for any period of time.
  • If someone unknown to you signals to you to stop, keep moving but wave and acknowledge that you have seen them.
  • Always stick to min pathways if riding in woodlands or parks.
  • Remember if you are riding your bicycle and wearing an MP3 player or Personal CD you will not hear any traffic which may be approaching.

How safe is your mobile and how safe are you when using your mobile?

Good advice is:

  • Only give your number to your friends.
  • If plans change then send a text message.
  • For emergency keep some money safe, “Just in case.”
  • If on your own set your phone to silent or vibrate so that you do not draw attention to yourself.
  • Do not be afraid to call 999 if you need to.
  • Dial *#06# to register your phone with your service provider, using your IMEI number.
  • Call immobilise on 08701 123123 if your phone is stolen.
  • Use a PIN and keep it to yourself.
  • Keep your phone in a different pocket to your money.
  • Don’t walk along the highway whilst sending a text to someone as this is when your phone may be snatched.
  • If someone asks you the time please use a wrist watch or tell them that you do not know the time instead of getting out your mobile to see what the time is.
  • Make calls in well lit areas at night.
  • Keep a copy of your phone numbers at home.
  • Be aware at all times of what is happening around you.
